National Galleries of Scotland - Granton Art Centre
Edinburgh

Granton Art Centre is a fascinating art storage facility holding over 5,000 artworks from Scotland’s world-renowned national art collection which are currently not on display to the public. Safely stored away in a climate-controlled space in North Edinburgh, the centre holds almost enough art to fill a 7-a-side football pitch. Looked after by the National Galleries of Scotland, these artworks belong to the people of Scotland and are part of our cultural heritage.
This Doors Open Day, come and explore behind the scenes of Scotland’s national art collection. Granton Art Centre holds over 5,000 artworks not on display in our galleries. This is your chance to uncover the often unseen art of Scotland and discover how we go about storing enough art to fill a 7-a-side football pitch! This is also your chance to find out about our plans for The Art Works, a sustainable new facility to care for, research and share Scotland’s renowned art collection. You can also learn about the community engagement we’ve been doing in North Edinburgh as part of this amazing project.
