Am Fasgadh, Highland Folk Museum
Highland – Badenoch & Strathspey

“Am Fasgadh” (The Shelter) is the Museum’s collection facility incorporating the collections storage and conservation, housing over 12,000 items. Founded by Isabel Grant in 1935 on Iona, the collection today represents the rich and varied culture of the Highlands and Islands from the 17th century to recent times. The emphasis is on rural and domestic life, with a vast range of artefacts including furniture, household goods, agricultural and forestry equipment, crafts and trades, Traveller and sporting items.
Wander at will on a self-led tour of the Store and the collection. This is a working store and so there are not many labels, so be sure to talk to the staff and volunteers on each floor. They will be able to answer any questions and give you more information about the objects. There will also be a “Find the coracle” trail for children. We have two full size coracles in our store, and there will be several very small ones hidden for people to find!
